A mixture of female artist from Philadelphia’s burlesque and drag community as well as actresses from the Philadelphia region will be performing Eve Ensler’s episodic play The Vagina Monologues on Friday February 3, 2017. The Vagina Monologues is made up of a varying number of monologues read by women. Each of the monologues deals with an aspect of the feminine experience, touching on some matters such as sex, love, rape, masturbation, birth, and female genital mutilation. The recurring theme throughout the piece is the vagina as a tool of female empowerment, and the ultimate embodiment of individuality. Some of the artist featured in the show will be burlesquer Tootsie Von Cuspid, former Philadelphia Miss Everything Dalyla Baker, actresses JJ Van Name and Kristen Phaneuf, to name a few. We will also have special dance performance by burlesque queen Aida Bummcake and an amazing pole performance by the reigning Miss Everything Tiel Batters Guarino. Among the performers we will have the female hyper drag queens of Philadelphia helping out with our bake sale and raffle! Proceeds for this performance will go toward the non-profit organization Women In Transition. WIT provides empowerment counseling, referrals and advocacy to women in Philadelphia who are endangered by domestic violence and/or substance abuse.
